Hiccup and Toothless Soar to New Heights: Live-Action “How to Train Your Dragon” Trailer Released
Universal Pictures has unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, marking the first time Hiccup and Toothless will come to life on screen. Fans of the beloved animated trilogy, which captivated audiences in the 2010s, can look forward to this exciting new chapter when the film hits theaters on June 13, 2025.
The live-action film features a fresh cast while maintaining many of the original characters. Mason Thames, known for his role in “The Black Phone,” takes on the lead role of Hiccup, with Nico Parker (“Dumbo” and “The Last of Us”) portraying Astrid. Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”) steps into the shoes of Fishlegs Ingerman. After voicing the character in the animated series, Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup's father.
The newly released trailer introduces viewers to Hiccup, Stoick, and Toothless, who closely resemble their animated counterparts.
The storyline follows Hiccup's journey as he is tasked with slaying a dragon as part of his Viking training but instead forms a heartwarming friendship with Toothless, an adorable dragon.
Dean DeBlois returns as both writer and director for this live-action adaptation, having previously helmed all three animated films in the franchise. The original trilogy includes How to Train Your Dragon (2010), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014), and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019). These films are based on Cressida Cowell's book series and explore Hiccup's adventures on the Isle of Berk, where he befriends an injured dragon and learns about friendship and bravery.
The How to Train Your Dragon franchise has expanded beyond films, featuring three television series, thrilling theme park rides, and even a live show titled How to Train Your Dragon on Ice. With a global box office revenue exceeding $1.6 billion, this franchise continues to resonate with fans of all ages.
As excitement builds for this live-action adaptation, fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and new experiences that will bring Hiccup and Toothless’s story to life like never before. With its rich history and beloved characters, this film is poised to capture both old fans and new audiences alike.
